ABC’s ‘The Golden Bachelors’ Couple Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist File for Divorce Three Months After Televised Wedding
Love Fades Fast for Reality TV Couple
The Bachelor Spinoff Stars Announce Separation
April 12, 2024 – Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, the couple who met and married on ABC's spinoff of "The Bachelor," "The Golden Bachelor," have filed for divorce just three months after their highly publicized wedding.
Turner, 72, and Nist, 70, announced their decision in a joint statement obtained by The Post. "It is with heavy hearts that we have made the difficult decision to end our marriage," the statement read. "We have decided that we are better off as friends and wish each other all the best in the future."
The couple's split comes as a shock to many, as they appeared to be deeply in love during their televised wedding ceremony on January 1, 2024. However, sources close to the couple say that they have been having difficulties for some time.
"They had a lot of problems from the beginning," said one source. "They were from different worlds and had different values. It was only a matter of time before they realized they had made a mistake."
Turner and Nist are not the first couple to divorce after meeting on a reality TV show. In fact, the divorce rate among reality TV couples is significantly higher than the national average.
"These couples are often put in very artificial situations and they don't have the time to get to know each other properly," said relationship expert Dr. Pepper Schwartz. "As a result, they often end up making decisions based on superficial factors, which can lead to problems down the road."
Despite their divorce, Turner and Nist say they still love each other and wish each other well.
"We will always have a special place in our hearts for each other," their statement said. "We ask for privacy during this difficult time."
